While we may not be quite over the April showers just yet, the wet weather is usually a welcomed sign that the warmer months are on their way and we’re soon to be leaving the winter blues behind us. Now it’s tempting to seek seasonal sunshine overseas, however with how our spring has heated up in the past, it’s an easy decision to start filling our calendars with City events and Day Trip Escapes to the British countryside. After all, the way the UK explodes with colour once Spring sets in, it’s understandable why so many are opting to stick around come the May bank holidays and the Easter Weekend.

In this article we bring to you 5 of our favourite spots outside of London to really enjoy the transitioning of seasons with your little ones.

Head south to Ashridge Estate

While London’s botanical gardens at Kew are arguably a tough competition to beat, if you do want to escape the bustle of city life, why not take a drive down to the Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire, where you and your little ones can walk among the carpet of bluebells, with a dose of nature’s finest fresh air in tow.

Run to Sissinghurst Castle Garden

Another glorious colourful sight would be Sissinghurst Castle Garden in Kent, where the bluebells are in full force and the surrounding woods and garden are bursting with life. A beautiful blend of greenery and stone cobbled paths, making it a perfect way to spend a spring afternoon with the family.

Get lost in Mayfield’s Lavender Fields

Making our way to the North Surrey Down in Epsom, you’ll find hidden away 25 acres of the show stopping purple Lavender blanket, that really does make the perfect destination for afternoon strolls, family photos or even a hearty pub lunch. Accompanying the luminous sea of blossom is a quaint country pub that allows Mayfield to be a real spring escape from the city. Just make sure you come equipped with hay fever tablets!

Petworth getaway

Carrying on the theme of great country pubs, we have Petworth that offers a delightful array of lunch spots for you and the family. Coupled with the picture-perfect cobbled streets and envy-inspiring gardens and interiors of Petworth House, this town really does make for the perfect Day Trip away from the hustle and bustle. Head down to West Sussex for spot of lunch, exploring and a show of their impressive daffodils and bluebells.

Recharge in St Albans

Escape to the North of London in this case, St Albans is no different to the other destinations mentioned. Beautifully presented, delightfully quaint and thankfully enjoyable for everyone! Another great location just a stone’s throw from central London that has something a little different to offer.
